Single Tufted brush

A single tufted brush is a special toothbrush for cleaning dental restorations and devices. Comprised of filaments that form a single tuft on a brush handle, the single tufted brush is designed for the cleaning of hard-to-reach areas.

The single tufted brush is designed for the gentle cleaning of:

  • Orthodontic devices
  • Dental bridges
  • Dental implants
  • Dental crowns

Single tufted brushes remove debris and plaque from appliances and restorations for a healthy, fresh mouth.

A single tufted brush is not a replacement for a standard toothbrush but may be used as part of a dental hygiene regimen that includes teeth and tongue brushing.

Single tufted brushes may be angled to reach spaces not accessible with a normal toothbrush. They provide a means to gently clean orthodontic devices and dental restorations including implants for improved oral hygiene.

How to use a single tufted brush

A single tufted brush may be used in different ways for cleaning depending on how the brush is angled.

  1. For cleaning orthodontic devices, the brush filaments should be splayed and gently agitated against the appliance fixtures.
  2. When cleaning dental implant abutments, the splayed brush filaments may be used in a circular motion for cleaning. The splayed filaments may be swept along the gum margin when cleaning hard-to-reach grooves of the back teeth.

A dentist, orthodontist or dental hygienist may provide advice on when and how best to clean dental appliances and restorations. Usually, dental devices are cleaned once daily unless otherwise recommended.
